The 80-gigabyte model, which hits shelves at RM1,599, is what Sony calls a “complete entertainment system” comprising a Blu-ray player, high-definition multimedia interface output, integrated Wi-Fi, Cell Broadband Engine and a DualShock 3 wireless controller. All these are designed to appeal to a wide range of consumers, from hardcore gamers to regular entertainment enthusiasts.
And coupled with the optional Blu-ray Disc Remote Control that goes for RM109, the PS3 makes a good and rather affordable Blu-ray player.
The units are being brought in by Sony Malaysia through Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Ltd, each carrying a price tag of RM1,799 for a bundled package with two games.
In conjunction with the local PS3 launch, Sony Computer Entertainment also launched the PlayStation Asia Web site at http://asia.playstation.com, which will bring more localised content to local PS3 users.
To mark the recent launch of the PS3, Sony Malaysia organised the Longest Video Game Marathon, which kicked off at 10am on the day before the official launch until 10am on the launch day, making an entry into the Malaysian Book of Records as the longest video game challenge held in the country to date.
A total of 120 early-bird customers also walked away with cash vouchers worth between RM150 and RM1,000. The girl who walked away with the RM1,000 cash voucher apparently queued up for 48 hours to be the first to own an official PS3 in the country.
